Winder, GA - April 27, 2011 – Cantsink Manufacturing, Inc., was awarded a $148,152 check from USDA Rural Development for their solar project in Winder, Georgia.  


Donnie Thomas, acting state director for USDA Rural Development, presented Cantsink with the check from their Renewable Energy for America (REAP) program.   The program has available funding in order to promote renewable energy growth and development.   


"Solar projects are a win-win for all concerned," Thomas said. "The business reduces costs and can even generate income. All of us benefit from a cleaner environment."


Cantsink is one of the rural businesses awarded funding from the over $14 million dollars loans and grants provided since the program was created in 2003.  In 2010, Georgia awarded 78 loans and grants for over $4.75 million.


“My initial interest in the transition of our facility to solar power was the environment, by utilizing alternative energy. However, I quickly realized that the short-term and long-term savings would allow a reinvestment into the company, expanding our business and keeping our competitive edge” said Patrick Hutchinson, President of Cantsink.  


The event celebration included lunch and was attended by delegates from the Economic Development Board from Barrow County as well as other representatives from state-based companies in the solar industry.  


“By installing solar on each of their facilities, CANTSINK has shown that solar pays off in many ways. Not only for the company itself as the beneficiary of this free energy from the sun, but also for all the jobs that are tied to these solar PV panels and the tax revenue generated as a result of these jobs” said Joe Thomas, President and COO of MAGE SOLAR USA.


Facility tours were given for attendees to see the operation of the 42 KW onsite solar system.
