The Helical Foundation & Tiebacks Committee (HFTC) of the DFI was held today in Boston in conjunction with the 36th Annual DFI Conference being held at the The Seaport Hotel & World Trade Center.

The following represent the main items addressed at the meeting:

  • The next HFTC meeting & conference will be in Denver in June of 2012.  The date will be determined at a later time, and HPW Technical Advisor, Mr. Moncef Souissi will be the chair person for the event.
  • Mr. Souissi, chairperson for the Ad Hoc Committee of Helical Manufacturers, updated the meeting attendees about the ICC-ES meeting held last week in Birmingham, AL at which the proposed revisions to AC358 were deferred.  He also confirmed that the Ad-Hoc Committee will be meeting with the ICC-ES staff engineers on November 17th  in an attempt to address all open issues as quickly and efficiently as possible.
  • A new sub-committee was also formed to review the IBC 2015 code development concerning helical piles. James Cherry, P.E. of Magnum Geo-Solutions was chosen as chair of this committee. He will be assisted by Gary Seider from Chance-Atlas, Kyle Olson from Foundation Supportworks and Mark Bryant from MacLean-Dixie HFS.
  • The HFTC also agreed to have Mr. Bob Hoyt, P.E. write a paper on the state-of-the art on helical piles.  The project will be funded by the DFI.
