Project Overview

Structural Systems Repair Group (SSRG), with headquarters in Cincinnati, OH, was contracted to stabilize the foundation of a Frisch’s restaurant located in Lawrenceburg, IN.  The foundation had been experiencing considerable settlement since the building’s construction was completed in 2009.  The cause of the settlement was directly related to the uncontrolled fill on the site.  In addition to the foundation repair work, SSRG was also contracted to repair a significant amount of cosmetic damage caused by the settlement.

The restaurant was built on a site that had considerable uncontrolled fill placed before construction began.  Structure settlement began almost immediately after the restaurant opened in 2009.

When diagnosing the problem, SSRG Project Manager, Ben Steinhauer, found that doors were sticking and the Exterior Insulation Finish System was showing signs of settlement and cracking.

In order to stop the settling, SSRG installed (8) IDEAL GROUP 2.875” diameter helical piles to refusal, with an average installation depth of 40’.  Certain pile placements were tricky with limited access because of items like a transformer pad, a dumpster pad, a trash compactor and a gas meter.  In addition to these challenges, all of the piles had to be installed while the restaurant was open, and interruption to service was not permissible. The (8) helical piles were successfully installed and loaded to the engineer’s specification in (2) days.

Once the building was stabilized, SSRG then repaired the restaurant’s masonry, replaced concrete on the building’s exterior, repaired interior & exterior damage to doors, drywall, glass and tile.  All cosmetic repairs were completed in (2) days.
