One of the most important objectives in assembling our Technical Advisory Team was diversity - diversity with respect to knowledge of various product technologies, laboratory testing, field installation and testing along with collective experience accumulated from a large geographic area.  We hope our readers agree with our sentiments that this knowledgeable and accomplished group of professionals will be able to provide a wealth of information about helical pile design, installation, testing and building codes.

Let’s meet the HPW Technical Advisory Team.

Howard Perko, Ph.D., P.E.

Dr. Perko served as an advisor to HPW since the web site’s inception in 2006.  He has spent nearly all of his professional life working in and around the helical pile industry.  Currently Dr. Perko is director of engineering for Magnum Geo-Solutions, a division of Magnum Piering, Inc., and his office is located in Fort Collins, CO.  Many people in the industry are familiar with Dr. Perko’s textbook, Helical Piles - a Practical Guide to Design and Installation, published by Wiley in 2009.  He has also written many papers on helical piles most of which are available for viewing on our web site.  HPW is honored that Dr. Perko has agreed to continue as one of our advisors.  Click here to read Dr. Perko’s CV.

Mohammed Sakr, Ph.D., P.E.

Dr. Sakr has a very impressive background with design, installation and testing of large diameter helical piles.  He has written extensively about large diameter helical pile projects in Canada while serving as Almita Manufacturing’s Senior Geotechnical Manager in Edmonton, Alberta.  These projects included a variety of telecommunications towers, power transmission lines, substations, industrial facilities, petroleum processing facilities and residential camps.  Currently Dr. Sakr is employed as Geotechnical Core Service Manager for WorleyParsons, in Edmonton, Alberta.  HPW is honored to have Dr. Sakr join our team, and we think our readers will appreciate his breadth of knowledge with large diameter helical piles.  Click here to read Dr. Sakr’s CV.

Moncef Souissi, Project Engineer, IAS Lab #342 Technical Manager

Mr. Souissi is arguably one the foremost authorities on helical pile laboratory and field testing under specifications and guidelines defined in the ICC-ES Acceptance Criteria for helical piles - AC358.  He is currently employed by CTL Thompson in Fort Collins, CO as the firm’s IAS Lab Technical Manager. Mr. Souissi is pursuing his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering at Colorado State University, and his thesis is Seismic Behavior of Helical Piles.  HPW is honored to have Mr. Souissi join our team.  We have no doubt that his knowledge of helical pile design and testing will prove to be a valuable contribution.  Click here to read Mr. Souissi’s CV.

Christina De Hollanda Cavalcanti Tsuha, Ph.D.

Dr. Tsuha is professor at the Department of Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil.  Her Ph.D. studies focused on the study of helical piles using centrifuge tests.  She also has an array of studies including cyclical behavior of deep foundations, reliability analysis of pile and shallow foundations and physical modeling of helical pile behavior in centrifuge and calibration chambers.  Dr. Tsuha has authored or co-authored several papers pertaining to the relationship between installation torque and uplift capacity of helical piles in sand.  HPW is honored to have Dr. Tsuha join our team, and we believe her extensive helical pile modeling and testing studies will provide significant insight for our readers.  Click here to read Dr. Tsuha’s CV.
